Our Story

Josh studied Economics and Management at Oxford before turning his focus to the science of health, running a mental health technology start-up in Silicon Valley, completing graduate work in human development at Harvard and building Holon, the wellness ecosystem powering SOMNISE.

Through his work in health science, he became increasingly aware of how modern lighting was disrupting sleep, and how few companies were addressing it with real evidence. He went back to first principles to deep dive into the importance of light, and from there built one of the first scientifically-validated, third-party tested blue light blocking companies in Europe.

Our Process

It took us more than two years to build SOMNISE. From the beginning, we set out to solve two major problems with the blue light blocking industry:

Poor quality frames

Most blue light glasses look and feel like an afterthought - cheaply made, uncomfortable, and quickly forgotten. We wanted to create something people would want to wear every day: timeless, durable, and beautiful. Because protecting your sleep shouldn't feel strange or biohacker-exclusive, it should feel natural, and dare we say, cool :)

Lack of proof

We noticed early on that most companies don't publish any independent test results at all — only vague marketing claims about "blue light protection."

But how do you really know if blue light glasses work? The answer lies in the spectral transmission curve — a lab test that measures exactly how much light passes through each wavelength. If a company isn't showing that data, you're taking their word for it.

We didn't want to take anyone's word.

So we built SOMNISE from the ground up — using independently tested, lab-verified lenses that precisely target the wavelengths known to suppress melatonin and disrupt circadian rhythm. Every SOMNISE batch is tested using full-spectrum spectrophotometry, ensuring measurable protection where it matters most for sleep and recovery.
